Description
This series of personal sports-themed designs was created for fun and to improve my design skills. It includes projects inspired by basketball, soccer, and other sports, exploring typography, color, and visual storytelling.
Each sports poster comes from ideas constantly running through my mind. I’m driven by random motivation—the urge to imagine something and actually bring it to life. It’s amazing to see how design allows me to turn imagination into reality. Art is a unique way for me to express my creative thinking and share it with others.
The Idea of Conceptualization
When I start designing a sports poster, the first step is deciding which professional athlete I want to focus on. I often look at current trends or special moments—for example, whether it’s a player’s birthday or a major achievement like Stephen Curry reaching 4,000 three-pointers. Sometimes the design is meant to celebrate an accomplishment, and other times it’s simply created on a normal day. It really depends on the moment.
I draw inspiration from freelance designers on platforms like Instagram and Behance, where creatives showcase their work. That’s what fuels my motivation. I study composition, lighting, and overall execution, while also analyzing sports branding, posters, and merchandise to understand the energy and emotion I want to bring into each design.
The next step is brainstorming multiple layout options and thinking through possible outcomes. I create sketches and rough concepts to explore composition, typography, and hierarchy—making sure everything fits together and supports the story the design is meant to tell.
Design Execution
This is where the fun part begins. While refining the design in Adobe Photoshop, I retouch each player image to enhance their look. Sometimes I exaggerate it a bit—almost over-retouching them. It’s hard to describe, lol, but it gives the design more impact.
I also match lighting, manipulate images, and refine compositions to ensure consistency and a dynamic presentation. For the final touch, I always use Camera Raw Filter. Camera Raw Filter is literally my best friend—it adds that dynamic finish and brings the whole design together.
